Abstract:Because of the importance of energy indicators in energy and economic planning, in shaping expectations and realizing dreams for the future, energetic information is presented and discussed with reference to the New Zealand experience of national hydroelectricity development, that should improve understanding of the extent of economic reserves of energy. For energy, physical accessibility is quantified by an energy yield ratio as indicator for absolute and relative scarcity. For the purposes of planning and public information, it is more appropriate if energy reserves are estimated in terms of net energy yields.
