Abstract: | Three facets and seven practices of Japanese management system are described: personnel management: life- time employment; seniority system, job rotation; general management: consensus decision making, long-range planning; manufacturing management: just-in-time, quality circles. Each aspect is analyzed separately, and traced deeper into the cultural history of Japan. It is shown that the so-called "Japanese" system is not isolated by this cultural history, and environmental variables. The only possible way to implement Japanese management practices successfully abroad is to apply them to the new environmental conditions not forgetting their close interdependencies. |
