Abstract:In this study, empirically examined are buyer–supplier relationships (here as: r-ship./r-ships.) in respect of supply sourcing strategies, r-ship. characteristics and firm performance. Examined are two sourcing strategies available to organizations: critical and leverage, which in turn influence the approach to managing the supplier r-ship. It is argued that different r-ship. approaches are appropriate to achieving different performance outcomes. A structural equation model, using a sample of 142 manufacturing firms based in the U.K., is used for testing the hypothesized model. Among others, it is found that a critical sourcing strategy requires collaborative supplier r-ships. to achieve higher r-ship. and business outcomes etc.
