Abstract:Conglomerate parents rally their unrelated subsidiary children, but have been too successful at chasing rivals back to their knitting. Conglomerates in the 1990s may have fallen foul of fashion but there is still strength in diversity, Simon Caulkin argues, and they should not be written off. These days, arguments in favour of diversification are as likely to win friends and influence people as argumets for killing babis. Conglomerates are the out thing.
