| Abstract: | Jardine Matheson or Jardines is "an Asian multinational". Every company in British-run Hong Kong is positioning for 1997 for the revertion of the territory to Chinese sovereignty. Jardines is the biggest employer after the government in Hong Kong with about 50% of profits deriving from China and Hong Kong. In recent years, the group has made forays outside Asia - with some unfortunate results. "Sometimes, because of market constraints, whether through market size or regulations, you have to look at some investments further afield", says Alasdair Morrison, the managing director of Jardines. |
