Abstract:There is unquestionable need for easier access to medicines. The pharmaceutical industry is being benchmarked on their corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance in access to medicines. This article examines the corporate feedback discussion pharmaceutical companies make in response to criticisms from benchmarking reports. It aims to conclude whether these responses promote increasing access to medicines or act as a barrier to improvement. This article illustrates the importance of benchmarking and transparency in creating inter-business competition.
