Abstract:Understanding what drives traveler's motivation is important for stakeholders in the tourism industry. One of these drivers of motivation is the search for novelty, experiences that a foreign destination can offer and that differ from the everyday life, such as different language, different geographical features or new food. This article aims to use the levels of novelty seeking as a base to identify segments of U.S. leisure travelers. The authors also examine the interrelationships between the traveler's level of novelty seeking, knowledge of the destination and preferred travel style.
