| Abstract: | Although the governments of Western countries and the international financial institutes, first of all the International Monetary Found, agree with the importance of providing financial aid to Russia, the agreement between the IMF and the Russian government about the paying out of the second instalment of the 1.5 Mrd USD aid to Russia was a suprise. The background of the decision is analyzed and the possible reasons for the change in the formerly reserved behaviour of the IMF towards Russia are investigated. It is found that although the sum of the aid is in itself insignificant, the agreement can improve Russia's credit-worthyness. |
