Abstract:The paper considers why some consumers are online shoppers while others are not and attempts to determine why certain consumers are drawn to the Internet and why others are not. The data used in this article was collected via an online survey conducted by Georgia Institute of Technology's Graphics, Visualization, and Usability Center from April through May 1997 and endorsed by World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).The authors accept that their analysis cannot accurately predict the tastes of the consumers, however, it does give the reader a general idea about what product categories are suited for commerce on the Internet. The paper provides a number of charts and tables and a substantial list of references on this subject.
