Abstract:Market-oriented (henceforth as: m-o.) economic policies have been strongly linked to faster rates of economic growth. In order to encourage m-o. reforms, foreign aid is often provided. This paper analyses the impact of aid on market-liberalizing policy reform, correcting for its potential endogeneity. As measured by a broad index of policies, higher aid is found to have slowed reform over the 1980-2000 period. There are also more reported results.
