Abstract:Companies are cranking out program after program to help employees balance their work with their personal lives. But we have been heralding the joys of the caring corporation for so long that we have overlooked some of the danger areas we have created. If we want employees to be ingrained with an independent contractor mentality, why are we binding them to us with a staggering number of benefits programs? Are these benefits paying off in real, quantifiable results? It is time for HR to ask itself whether its caring programs help or hurt business.
