Abstract: | In this article, the author argues that many of the existing models of strategy used by firms, applied by consultants and taught by business schools are less useful because they were developed in and for a time of less turbulent change. That is in itself easy to do, but without offering something to use in their place, the reader would be short-changed. The author introduces, readily following Porter, five new forces for strategy in the digital age, suggesting that managers may find them constructive tools for attempting to cope with the challenges of disruptive technologies. Unfortunately, these new forces are not nearly as neatly assembled as Porter's and their implications not nearly as clear. |
