Abstract:The influence of negative press reports (hereafter as: pr-rpts.) on their subjects was determined through a questionnaire answered by 91 persons having complained about such reports to the Deutsche Presserat (German Press Council). It is shown that negative pr-rpts. have long-lasting emotional and social consequences (as: consqs.), as perceived by the subjects. Plausible interactions exist btw. these consqs. There is a theoretical basis for attributing both types of consqs. to certain characteristics of the reports.
