Abstract:Alternatives to the traditional five- day 40 hours workweek. Flexile scheduling, job sharing, and compressed workweeks can help companies to a wide range of employee life-styles.The use of flexile has doubled in the past ten years in the US. According to a 1975 survey 29 per cent of the firms used flexile. A comparison of advantages and disadvantages of flexile is made. The most often used core period is 9 a. m. to 3 p. m. Job sharing grew in popularity during the early 1980s. The main results of the 1985 study on job sharing are described. Some alternatives of workweek scheduling are discussed. The results of the 1985 survey on workweek scheduling are dealt with.
