Abstract:The development of an empirical model for measuring the effectiveness of R and D research and development consortia is reported. The model is applied to 10 common types of consortia, and the results provide general guidelines for selecting the most effective consortia. Moreover, the approach taken here establishes a general model for evaluating consortia. The opportunity to improve technology transfers among the members is an important advantage that has motivated the formation of consortia within several industries. Consortia provide an integrative ambience that brings users and performers of R and D close together. The perceived disadvantages of consortia are also cited. Finally, the most effective R and D consortia are listed.
