| Abstract: | Raising venture capital can be a complex obstacle course, and the first hurdle to overcome is whom to approach. Views of fund providers and fund seekers are presented in these matters. Few business plans are accepted by the first person who reads them as the managing director of Complete Opto Electronics /COE/ found out. However, negotiations with 3i, the largest source of venture capital in the United Kingdom made some progress but did not result in a deal, so COE was turned down. Over the year 3i developed a list of criteria which it likes to see fulfilled, especially by people hoping to start a new business. It considers that the quality of team is more important than the business plan. The venture capital industry is trying to make start-up finance more available. |
