Abstract: | The last half of the twentieth century has witnessed changes in the form of the relationship between business and government. Initially, Milton Friedman's laissez-faire model ("the business of business is profits") dominated both business and government thinking about this sensitive relationship. In recent decades, though, models based on enlightened self-interest or stakeholder relationships justified an increase in business' role in advancing social or governmental interests. Recent events have pushed the business-government relationship even further, more towards a partnering model. |
