Abstract:The subjects of the paper are internet, hackers and electronic crimes. The author of the article states that from hacker attacks to data theft to financial fraud, e-crime is on the rise in Europe. And it is costing businesses a fortune. They, along with governments and law enforces, want to fight it. The former hope to protect their networks via new security technologies. The latter advocate universal monitoring - which would allow eavesdropping on business networks - to combat paedophiles, neo-Nazis and the Mafia. But opponents worry that this could undermine basic constitutional freedoms. The paper also provides a number of insets.
