Abstract:Accountants stand to be directly affected by the new clampdown on financial crime and it isn't just the company's health that is at risk, but their careers. After a year of high profile scandals on Wall Street, financial crime seems to have reached epidemic proportions Accountants everywhere have lost credibility and this year UK accountants in practice and industry will come under scrutiny as new antifraud legislation comes into effect. Forensic investigators say that fraud is on the increase while the Financial Services Authority has recently been re-roled to police financial crime in the City. The net effect of all this is that auditors, chief accountants and company directors cannot afford to be complacent.
