Abstract:The confusion into which so many lives have fallen today gives special importance to patterns by which human experience has been or can be organized. These patterns often produce significant forms of creative behavior. "Life must go on." "One day at a time." "That's the way the ball bounces." Such cliches are associated with periods of serious personal stress and tension. They constitute prescriptions for coping with the death of a friend, job pressures, domestic conflict, severe disillusionment, or financial loss.
