Abstract:Franchising is more risky than conventional small business activity in the first four or five years for both franchisor and franchisee, followed by a period of relatively low failure once break-even has been reached. The industry must come to terms with the new reality on failure rates, which in itself could create other problems. for instance, to reduce the popularity of franchising per se.
