Abstract:The study focuses on investigating if analysts learn from their experiences and what analyst experience measures. It argues that measures of experience need to be expanded to include task-specific experience instead of only general and firm-specific experiences. The empirical tests are derived from the conceptual model. Results revealed that analysts' forecast accuracy is associated with both their innate ability and task-specific experience. In addition, forecast accuracy and task-specific experience seemed to be most highly correlated for those analysts who survived the longest and, thus, presumably had the greatest innate abilities.
