Abstract: | Current uses of computers in R and D are described on the example of 158 sample organizations. Routine computer use is becoming a characteristic of scientists, engineers and managers. Characteristics of usage differ markedly by size of R and D unit and by line of business. Four kinds of technical/scientific use dominated: statistics,automation, databases and modelling. The future is likely to see an explosion in the use of experts systems and communications. The most important R and D management uses are budgeting,project control, communications and report preparing. |
