Abstract: | Many IS departments at companies are no longer waiting for vendors to develop new packages for crucial systems. Some users in vertical industries develop alliances with suppliers and even other users if they cannot find proper off-the-shelf programs from vendors. One example of this trend is Aetna Life and Casualty company's Investment Management Group that is developing an investment management and accounting system with Andersen Consulting and Digital Equipment Corp. They produced Aetna Distributed Asset Management (ADAM) system with two functions: securities accounting and portfolio management. Inviting vendor participation in a system development project can provide users with several advantages. |
