Abstract:The combined annual growth of the fifteen member states of the European Union was reported to 2.4% in 1995, after an expansion of 2.8% in 1994. For the major four economies, Germany, France, Italy and the UK, the annual rate of output expansion was in the rnge 2-3% for 1995. However, the overall annual figures disguise the sharp deceleration in growth rates which occurred as the year proceeded, particularly in France. The recovery came to a standstill in German and France in the middle of last year, with output actually declining in the final three months of the year.
