Abstract: | There are still concerns about the weakness of the world market, centred on Western Europe and Japan. Although continental Europe has avoided an outright recession, growth so far this year generally has been weak and patchy. Continued fiscal tightening means that the recovery will probably be relatively subdued. The sensational first quarter GDP figures appeared to mark the end of a three year period of stagnation in Japan. However, although the second quarter full-back was expected the recovery continues to look fragile. |
