| Abstract: | German economy starts to recover. There is volatile activity in France. Immediate prospects are poor for Italy. European unemployment continues to be high. Fiscal consolidation drive continues. European growth is expected to pick up in 1997 and 1998. Real GDP in the fifteen member states of the European Union was reported to have risen by 0.5% in the first three months of this year compared with the last quarter of 1995, having fallen by 0.24 in the previous quarter. |
