Abstract:This article examines whether the location of the firm influences the firm employment growth. Using an empirical model and a detailed set of spatial characteristics it explores the employment growth in individual companies located in Northern Netherlands. The results show that a higher number of consumers in a range of 5 kilometers has a positive impact on firm growth. The employment of new firms is found to have a negative effect on the growth of existing firms. In firms recently located in the area or at site especially designed for manufacturing activities the employment numbers are increasing.
