Abstract:Some estimates of the consequences of Uruguay Round are presented based on a global trade model developed for this purpose. Two possible conclusions of the Uruguay Round are examined: a "comprehensive" outcome with major reforms in all areas under negotiation and modest "facesaving" outcome with enough of an agreement to preserve some sense of achievement but involving little progress in the areas of agriculture, services and textiles. The conclusion is that, while a comprehensive agreement is preferable to a modest one, the alternative is also likely to generate widely distributed gains for major trading interests.
