Abstract: | While maintaining support for fossil and nuclear energy, the Reagan Administration slashed funding for the Department of Energy's (DOE) research and development in energy conservation and renewable energy (CORE), arguing that government intervention in the energy market during the 1970s caused market distortion and disequilibrium. The Administration's dismissal of these economically viable, environmentally benign and strategically secure technologies indicates that political factors overrode prudent economic, environmental and strategic analysis. |
