Abstract:The author uses the term 'competition policy' to refer to anti-trust policy (the control of cartels, mergers and abuse of dominant positions) together with sector-specific regulation which aims to open up previously monopolistic markets, as in the network industries. He follows the normal non-EU practice of regarding dumping and state aids as questions for trade policy, while emphasising the importance of the interactions between the two policies.
