Abstract: | Nuclear power has been seen as an answer to the energy problems of the less developed countries and their markets have been seen as an answer to the problems of the nuclear power industry. Within a few years of the oil shock it was clear that the forecasts of unrestrained nuclear expansion were erroneous. Against this wider background, the progress, problems and prospects of nuclear power in developing countries are examined. Particular attention is given to the countries with real nuclear power commitments. A number of possibilities are examined which could influence future nuclear ordering, including that of supplying substantially smaller reactors so as to widen the market potential. |
