Abstract:In 1989 the achievements of the British nuclear sector were thrown into question when a government decision was announced to abandon privatization of the nuclear sector, and any further nuclear construction. It is possible that the relations between the government and the nuclear industry will undergo change. True costs have been manipulated out of all recognition. In order to break out from the described industrial mold it is necessary to attack the question of the economic assessment of nuclear power by modelling the life cycle costs of the plant on the system. It is suggested that a funded programme of damage limitation for nuclear decision makers would be prudent.
