Abstract:The separation of value-related political factors from economic and technical factors is an intractable problem in energy policy formulation. A project was carried out in Finland with the aim to help the Finnish public and politicians to structure the debate on nuclear power in a decision analytic framework. The results show that when dealing with nuclear power there are preferential value differences as well as different opinions about the facts and data both among the politicians and experts. As far as it is known, this was the first time worldwide when parliament level decision-making was aided by computerized decision analysis.
