Abstract: | The US defense industry is struggling to reorganize itself for growth, if not for survival. How defense contractors survive the rest of the decade is important not only to their shareholders and employees but also to American taxpayers. The article describes strategies for smart downsizing. Shrinking smart means owning up to overcapacity, overstaffing and inefficiency. "Hang on to what you've got to have and throw the rest away." |
