Abstract:The five hundred days after Olusegun Obasanjo came to power hold enough promise to give Nigeria renewed hope of stability and progress. His election and subsequent reforms could prove to be a turning point in the development of the country. Economic development has long been hampered by corruption and short-termism, so it is vital that the political economy is tackled as a whole. Yet Nigerians have seen too many false dawns to be convinced that anything is going to change just yet.
