Abstract:This paper explores the possible nature of epistemology. The identity and value of management (hereafter as: mgmt.) research (here as: res.) is clarified as opposing metaphysics (here as: m-ph.) of action and developing a res. process for the identification and revision of new models of action. Four examples of mgmt. res. leading to a revision are discussed: the theory (here as: th.) of mgmt. instruments versus the m-ph. of social control, th. of prescribers vs. the m-ph. of markets and hierarchies, th. of collective knowledge production vs. the m-ph. of expertise, and th. of innovative design vs. the m-ph. of R&D projects.
