Abstract:The argument that a merger of equals is possible is supported by the case of the successful union of Astra AB and Zeneca Group PLC, both operating in the pharmaceuticals industry. To achieve such results, both of the companies designed and followed a three-step merger model: 1) a commitment to change was achieved throughout the organizations by stressing equality and new corporate mindset, 2) all important issues were negotiated at the same time and 3) the steering committee ensured that the integration was fast, fair, flexible, forgiving and constantly communicated.
