Abstract:Software services consultants are pedding their reengineering skills and toolsets as a quick and easy way for information services /IS/ shops to rebuild their aging applications into new Computer-Aided Software Engineering /CASE/ packages. In the IS neighbourhood, large application development shops longing to move out of old COBOL cabins and into shiny CASE environments, have been blocked by market realities. The cost to CASE, including time, training and disruption of business, can incline many companies to live with old code and older ways. Some cost estimates are given, and a number of CASE products are shown, some of them customized for customers. A list of consultants about software reengineering services is presented.
