| Abstract: | The object is to propose a form of modelling potentially applicable to the costly and recurrent problem of inspecting structures like bridges, roads, off-shore platforms and high-rise blocks. It is explored how the issues of risk and maintenance cost may be addressed within a model of long-time scale problem. Delay-time analysis is utilized as a fundamental ingredient to progress. The behavior of the model is clarified to some extent by a numerical example. Further possible developments in the direction of complexity are indicated. The main inputs are the delay-time, the probability of detection and the cost. |
