Abstract:Transforming major organizations with thousands of employees is a complex task especially when the aim of change is to alter the behavioral patterns of all the employees. This article explores the lessons learnt by top management teams from multinational companies when they introduced Total Quality Management as their major change initiative. They are engaged in four areas: 1. legitimacy, 2. formulating objectives, 3. managing reviews, 4. changing systems. Their personal involvement was of critical importance.
