Abstract:According to the author, the USA system of allocating investment capital both to companies and within companies threatens business and the nation's long term growth. In the United States, capital is fluid. In countries like Japan and Germany, it is dedicated. And while the United States focuses on financial measures, other countries focus on corporate position. The author presents these conclusions and recommends reforms that could make the USA system superior to those in Japan and Germany. Added are two notes by R. Wayland describing cases at Cummins Engine and the Therma Electron Corporation.
