Abstract:It is not particularly fashionable to feel sympathy for the likes of Microsoft and Coca-Cola, but let's try to see things from their point of view for a change. In Europe, giant companies like these are banned from conducting sales and marketing practices that smaller firms can carry out with impunity. They are, they say, literally being punished for their success. The villain of this particular piece is the European Commission, which can impose hefty fines on companies that abuse a dominant position in the marketplace.
