| Abstract: | The article discusses the concepts of exploitation and exploration in technological innovations. Through a literature review, the aim is to disclose the differing interpretations of exploitation and exploration that lead to ambiguity and to reduce the dissonances found in the literature. The authors find out and explain the initial causes of the differences in interpretations of the two concepts. After this, a new theoretical framework is developed to combine the different ways of interpretation and to construct a new defining typology for exploitation and exploration. |
