Abstract:In this study, three modes of theory building at the intersection of academic disciplines are identified and their strengths and weaknesses are emphasized. These three modes are positioned relatively to each other using the "impact wheel" to visualize their impact on five areas: theory, field, discipline, researchers, and external stakeholders. Maximum impact is created when theory building at the intersection reveals new phenomena that alter the boundaries of existing disciplines and fields while generating new ones.
