Abstract: | The record of corporate strategy over the last 30 years has been dismal. A study of the diversification moves of prominent companies, including acquisitions, joint ventures, and start-ups,shows that they sold off more money than they kept.To ensure a better record in the future, companies must move away from hands-off strategies like portfolio management to more hands-on, collaborative efforts that build on interlocking strength of the organization's diverse units and paying dividends so that the shareholders can be the portfolio managers. |
