Abstract: | The nature of managerial work in People's Republic of China (PRC) is examined, Using Mintzberg's framework of managerial work roles and his description of managerial activities, an operational survey instrument is developed and applied to a sample from 97 entreprises located in Henan Province. The questionnaire focused on the roles of leader, liaison, monitor, spokesman, entrepreneur and resource allocator. Many interesting survey results are described and interpreted. Similarities and differences in Chinese and Western managerial jobs are highlighted. It is not unlikely that PRC will follow the success of the little dragons. Some implications for training and development of managers are summarized. |
