Abstract:Technology transfer and communications media are seen as ways of reducing cultural barriers to international business transactions. Negotiations for technology transfer involve a number of players, including international bodies, governments, business firms, financial institutions, consultants, and sometimes trade unions. The role of conflicting interest groups in the negotiation process is examined. A conceptual framework to study multi-party role and the measurement of the perceived importance of factors by diverse interest groups is suggested. It is hypothesized that the choice criteria of technology collaborations not only seem to differ from country to country and from industry to industry, but also vary between firms within the same industry.
