Abstract:Competitive benchmarking involves identification of the products, services , and work processes of an organization's direct competitors. The objective of competitive benchmark- ing is to identify specific information about competitor's products, processes and business results. The intuitive fears that competitors can't be trusted to give their 'real' data condemn competitive benchmarking to fail in practice apparantly. Based on decision theoretic methods this paper shows, against intuitive expectations, that competitive benchmarking under certain assumptions can be a rational management tool.
