| Abstract: | The proactive-reactive behavior patterns of 16 top-level managers and their behavior patterns are examined. The usefulness of the proactive-reactive dichotomy is evaluated and issues are raised concerning the proactive-reactive label. It is concluded that the dichotomy is overly simplistic for describing complex managerial behavior and a more complex model is proposed for examining the proactive dimension. The degree of proactivity is argued to be a relative instead of an absolute question. The factors of proactivity are also discussed. |
